Goal: By the end of this quick guide, you'll have everything you need to record your first roast with RoastLog – no technical headaches, just smooth sailing!
Prerequisites: Your roaster should already be set up to record temperatures. If you need help with this step, just reach out!

Record your first amazing roast!
1. Activate Your Account
After signing up, you'll receive an email with your username and a temporary password. Just follow the simple instructions to log in and create your own password. Once that's done, you're ready to go.
2. Update Your Settings
Take a minute to make RoastLog feel like home. After logging in, head to the settings page to customize important details like:
Your time zone
Temperature units (Celsius or Fahrenheit)
Mass scale (kilograms or pounds)
Adding team members (if you want to invite others to your account)
3. Add a roaster
You'll need to add one or more roasters. Remember that there are no additional fees for adding roasters. So if you'd like to record roasts on your 4-bager and your sample roaster, no problem!
Navigate to the equipment page and add the roaster that you'll use to get started. You can read more about Roasting Equipment in this article.
4. Add Your Coffee Inventory
Now for the fun part – let's add some bean lots. Navigate to the inventory page and click the "New bean" button in the upper left corner.
Pro tip: When creating a "Coffee" entry at the top, organize by origin. For example, if your first lot is from Brazil, create a "Brazil" coffee with matching origin. This will make it much easier to stay organized as your inventory grows over time.
Recommended way of creating a "Coffee", which every Bean Lot needs before being added.
Fill in the required fields to create your new Lot, and you're all set!
5. Create Your Roastables
Roastables are the actual coffees you'll be roasting – they can be single origins or blends made from multiple Bean Lots. For example, you might have "Brazil Light" and "Brazil Dark" roastables using the same bean lot but with different roasting profiles. You may also have a "House Blend", which is made from multiple Bean Lots. Roastables are what allow RoastLog to accurately track your green coffee inventory. By telling us the recipes for each Roastable, we know how much inventory to deduct.
Good news: a default single-origin Roastable is automatically created whenever you add a new Bean Lot. Just visit the Roastables page to make sure everything looks right.
6. Log in to RoastLogger
RoastLogger is where the magic happens – it's our application for tracking and recording your roasting profiles. While it's separate from our main web app, you'll use the same login credentials you've already set up.
For Phidgets Users
If you're using a Phidgets device with your roaster, you can use our convenient web-based version at https://roastlogger.online. We've created a detailed guide to help you set up your Phidgets device – just follow the instructions to get everything talking together smoothly.
For Loring, Sivetz, and Other Users
If you're using a Loring, Sivetz, or another roaster with a direct computer connection, you'll need to download and install RoastLogger for your specific operating system. Check out our detailed article for download links and setup instructions to get you configured correctly.
7. Start Roasting!
Once RoastLogger is up and running and successfully reading temperatures, you're ready to create some magic. Simply add an item to your Roast Queue, click Record from the main screen, and you're on your way to coffee perfection.
