Getting started with RoastLogger

This article walks through how to get started with RoastLogger and your options for different roasters and operating systems.

Written by Linsey Fan

RoastLogger is the application, or suite of applications, that we have developed to record and upload profiles and other roast details to the RoastLog cloud-based platform. Since creating the application, RoastLogger has gone through several iterations. This article will help clarify what options are available and which one is right for you.

The major versions are:

  • RoastLogger Web (version 5)

RoastLogger Web (Recommended)

We officially launched RoastLogger Web in 2020 with a completely new version 5 launched in 2025. RoastLogger Web is the recommended application for anyone using Phidgets devices, which is the recommended data bridge (unless using a direct-connect roaster β€” see our compatible roasters list.)

Access RoastLogger web here: https://roastlogger.online

Important: RoastLogger Web requires Google Chrome browser.

RoastLogger Desktop β€” Mac/PC (Version 5)

If you are roasting using a direct-connect roaster, use RoastLogger Desktop. It's available for Windows, Intel Macs, and Apple Silicon Macs (M1/M2/M3) β€” make sure to download the build that matches your machine. See our Works With Your Roaster article for the full list of supported roasters.

RoastLogger iPad (Legacy)

Our native iPad application is a great choice for Apple fans who embrace the ease of having a touch interface. RoastLogger for iPad works exclusively with our Data Bridge using a Bluetooth connection.

Our iPad application is reliable and used daily by many roasters. We are currently keeping this application alive in Apple's AppStore, but focusing our development efforts on RoastLogger for web and Mac/PC.

You can find RoastLogger in the Apple App Store by simply searching for "RoastLogger".

RoastLogger Desktop β€” Mac/PC (Legacy, Versions 3 & 4)

For over 15 years, our legacy Mac/PC version of RoastLogger (version 3 & 4) has been in the field, recording roasting profiles all over the world, day after day. It's battle tested and works well. This is considered a legacy platform which is not receiving any new feature development.

We only support this version for existing customers using a legacy Data Bridge. New customers should use RoastLogger Web or Desktop (Version 5).

Making Your Choice

When deciding which version of RoastLogger to use, follow this simple guide:

  1. Using a Phidgets device or RoastLog Data Bridge?

    • Choose RoastLogger Web for the most up-to-date features and cross-platform compatibility

    • If you prefer an installable app, RoastLogger Desktop (Version 5) offers the same features β€” choose the Apple Silicon or Intel build to match your Mac

  2. Using a direct-connect roaster? (see our compatible roasters list)

    • Windows β†’ RoastLogger Desktop for Windows

    • Apple Silicon Mac (M1/M2/M3) β†’ RoastLogger Desktop for Mac (Apple Silicon)

    • Intel Mac β†’ RoastLogger Desktop for Mac (Intel)

  3. Have a RoastLog Data Bridge and love your iPad?

    • Choose RoastLogger iPad for a touch-based interface with Bluetooth connectivity
