Goal: Understand which data logging hardware is compatible with RoastLogger and which devices we recommend for new customers.

Prerequisites: You have a RoastLog account.

RoastLogger supports several data logging devices for capturing temperature data from your roaster. For new customers, we recommend the Phidgets VINT system — it's modular, widely available, and well-supported.

Note: The RoastLog Data Bridge is no longer manufactured or sold. If you're a new customer, please use the Phidgets VINT system described below. Existing Data Bridge users are covered in the Legacy Hardware section.

VINT Hub Phidget — HUB0000_0 (Required)

The VINT Hub is the core of the Phidgets system. It connects to your computer via USB and provides up to 6 VINT ports for connecting sensor modules like the thermocouple and RTD Phidgets.

Think of it as the hub that everything else plugs into — you'll need one regardless of which sensors you're using.

4x Thermocouple Phidget — TMP1101_1

The 4x Thermocouple Phidget (TMP1101) connects to the VINT Hub and supports up to four thermocouples simultaneously. It's our recommended sensor module for most roasters.

Key specs:

  • 4 thermocouple inputs via screw terminals (no special connectors needed)

  • Supports type J, K, E, and T thermocouples

  • Maximum data rate of 50 Hz

  • Detects and reports thermocouple disconnections

Phidgets sells compatible thermocouples directly, though you can source them from any supplier. See our Thermocouple Basics article for guidance on types and sourcing, and our Using Phidgets with RoastLogger article for full setup instructions.

RTD Phidget — TMP1200_0

The RTD Phidget (TMP1200) connects to the VINT Hub and supports RTD (resistance temperature detector) sensors, which offer higher accuracy than thermocouples.

Key specs:

  • 1 RTD input

  • Supports 2, 3, or 4-wire RTD configurations (PT-100, PT-1000)

  • Improved noise performance

  • Maximum data rate of 4 Hz

For more details on using RTDs with RoastLog, see our Using RTD temperature sensors article.

Legacy Hardware

The following devices are no longer available for purchase but continue to be supported for existing users.

RoastLog Data Bridge (USB/Bluetooth LE)

The original RoastLog Data Bridge supported both USB and Bluetooth LE communication. Compatible with ungrounded type-J and type-K thermocouples via mini-connectors. No longer manufactured or sold — new customers should use the Phidgets VINT system above.

4-input Standard Data Bridge (USB-only) — discontinued October 2015

1-input Standard Data Bridge (USB-only) — discontinued April 2015

Some RoastLogger features are not available on legacy Data Bridge hardware, including real-time Rate of Rise plotting, end mass entry, custom event shortcuts, value-based events, and roast energy display. For the full feature set, use a Phidgets VINT device.
