Goal: Learn how to view and modify roastable recipes directly in RoastLogger for temporary adjustments.

Prerequisites: You have RoastLogger running and roastables added to your roast queue. You understand the difference between temporary and permanent recipe changes.

Viewing Recipe Composition

When you have blend roastables in your roast queue, you can quickly view their composition without leaving RoastLogger. Simply click on the ellipsis (three dots) next to any roastable in your queue, then hover over the "Recipe" option. This will display the current recipe breakdown, showing each component and its percentage.

Making Temporary Recipe Adjustments

Sometimes you need to make a one-time adjustment to a recipe for a specific roast. Maybe you're running low on one component, or you want to experiment with different proportions. RoastLogger makes this easy with temporary recipe editing.

From the ellipsis menu, select "Edit recipe" to open the recipe editing dialog. Here you can:

  • Add new components using the "+" button

  • Remove existing components using the delete icon

  • Adjust percentages for each component

  • See the calculated amounts automatically update based on your batch size

The percentages must add up to 100% before you can save your changes.

Understanding Temporary vs. Permanent Changes

When you edit a recipe in RoastLogger using the "Edit recipe" option, these changes are temporary and only affect that specific item in your roast queue. This is perfect for one-time experiments or adjustments without changing your master recipe.

The temporary nature means:

  • Only this queued roast will use the modified recipe

  • Your original roastable recipe remains unchanged

  • Future roasts will continue using the original recipe

  • Other items of the same roastable in your queue are unaffected

If you need to roast multiple batches of an edited Roastable, you can simply click the "Duplicate" icon in the roast queue, which will duplicate the item as it exists in the roast queue, with any of your changes.

Making Permanent Recipe Changes

If you want to permanently update a roastable recipe based on your experiments or changing preferences, you'll need to make the change in the main RoastLog web application. Navigate to the roastable's detail page and edit the recipe there.

Once you save permanent changes to a roastable recipe, RoastLogger will automatically pick up those changes the next time you visit the Roast Queue page, ensuring your queue always reflects the most current recipes.

This system gives you the flexibility to experiment with recipe variations while maintaining the integrity of your master recipes until you're ready to make permanent updates.
